Short version: your income and expense figures never leave your browser.
Your tax numbers stay on your device
The income and expense amounts you enter into the calculator are processed entirely in your browser and saved only in your browser's local storage, so the site remembers them next time. They are never sent to us or to any server. We cannot see what you earn or what you spend.
The $5 pass
Payment for the optional Tax-Year Pass is handled by Stripe, which processes the card and sends us only a confirmation that a payment succeeded. We do not see or store your card details. Your pass is a signed token kept in your browser; it contains no personal information.
If you email us (for example about advertising, or a correction), we receive your message and email address and use them only to reply. We don't add you to any list.
Analytics and cookies
We count page views with our own analytics, running on our own servers at metrics.bluecraneworks.ca. It sets no cookies and stores no identifier that could be tied back to you — visitors are counted with a hash that is re-salted daily, so the same person on two different days is not recognisable as the same person. Nothing is sold and nothing is shared with a third-party analytics company.
Advertising
Ads on this site are sold directly by Blue Crane Works Inc. and served from our own ad server, Wire, at wire.bluecraneworks.ca. There is no ad exchange, no real-time bidding, no reseller and no data broker in the path — see ads.txt.
Which ad you see is decided by what the page is about — the province, the topic — and never by anything about you. No cookie is set, no profile is built, and you are not tracked across other sites. What gets recorded is that an ad was shown on a page and whether it was clicked, counted per day for the advertiser. That record contains no identifier for you at all.
Clicking an ad sends you through a redirect on wire.bluecraneworks.ca so the click can be counted, then straight on to the advertiser. Once you are on their site, their own privacy policy applies, not ours.
